Country update, June 2005 - Set-up of the C Band link to Nepal

This page describes the set-up at the physical layer only. No IP configuration is show there.

I want to take opportunity of that page to save the various set-up of the equipments.

The link to TU Nepal has been started. One modem has been added to manage the frequency used for bidirectional communication to Nepal.

We used the same Cisco is used to bridge both BDL connections because the router had two network and two WAN interfaces. In the same way, we use the same PC router for both BDL connections, we just added a network interface card in the box.

The ground station for the bi-directional link is composed of following equipment:

3.8 meters Prodelin C-band antenna [initial configuration]
AnaCom 60 Watts satellite tranceiver, also called ODU (OutDoor Unit) or HPA (High power Amplifier) [initial configuration]
SDM-300A, Comtech ef data satellite modem, also known as IDU (InDoor Unit) [configuration] for AIT-SFC (Japan) link. This configuration reflects the change of frequency between ITB and AIT in November 2005.

Cisco 2600 to bridge between serial RS422/449 and Ethernet [configuration]
Uplink converter from 70 MHz IF to L band by Qintech (no configuration)
PC-receiver running trustix for UDLR
UD Box receiver for UDLR, by UDcast
2 Pentium, under FreeBSD, running as an Internet router
2 dividers/combiners to split/merge the IF signal (no configuration)
a splitter for L band signal
